Fire in the South End

Special thanks to Thomas Penna for sending MassLive.com this photo of the aftermath of this morning's Gemini building blaze. As of 4 p.m. it looked as though most what you see here had been knocked down.
There was a major fire in the South End this morning at the Gemini/Carter building, which had been under consideration for renovation as the ArtSpace project for affordable housing and gallery space for artists. What a shame. Don't miss the dramatic Fire Department photos.

Lights of downtown

Here's a shot I took of Tower Square from the corner of Main and Harrison. You can just barely make out the Christmas Tree area at the food court. It may not exactly qualify as a holiday lighting display, but I think it looks festive, in a slightly ominous way.

If you are a fan of photo blogs, then you probably already know that WMass-ers Sigh Club (AKA Kristen from Sound Check), Codebitch, Girl Incognito and Jimmy Squid's Weapons, named for an actual gun store in Chicopee, have lots of great shots. Brian over at Royville has a moblog. Brian is quite possibly the most wired high schooler on the eastern seaboard, never mind Agawam. Too bad the photoblog at Leaving Here has actually left.

Any other Springfield area photo bloggers out there? Please let me know so I can link them here.

WEMCO gets a workout

Here is proof that competitive holiday lighting is alive and well in the City of Homes, and pretty fierce on this one block of Warner Street:

Can your neighborhood beat this one?
